It’s folk songs all the way, folks! From the UK to the USA and beyond, I’ll be concentrating on finger picking Folk songs down at Zola’s On The Water this Thursday, 6 - 8pm, September 9th. By request, the evening’s music will hark back to vintage folk tunes from the 50's, 60's and 70's, with a few recent selections peppered in.
Many well known, many new to some from artists such as Leonard Cohen, Peter Paul & Mary, Donovan, Neil Diamond, The Dubliners, Dylan, Don Williams, John Prine, Paul Simon, Kris Kristofferson, Cat Stevens, Randy Newman, Townes Van Zandt, Burl Ives, The Fureys, Tom T. Hall, Gordon Lightfoot, Tim Rose, Willie Nelson, Kirk Douglas and ages of others from many other ages.
Fine food, fine wine, good music, good friends. Stroll on down to the waterfront on Thursday, right on down to Zola’s On The Water, 16374 Lower Harbor Rd, Brookings-Harbor. The place to be!

Join us for a Zoom-based discussion of author Ash Davidson's debut novel, "Damnation Spring," on Thursday, September 23 at 5:30pm.
Register here for the Zoom information for the event: https://www.currypubliclibrary.org/.../book-discussion.../
"Damnation Spring," came out on August 3, 2021, and is receiving an immense amount of praise already. The library has several copies of the book available for patrons to check out and read before the book discussion.
Author Ash Davidson was born in Arcata, California and attended the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. Her work has been supported by the Arizona Commission on the Arts and MacDowell. She lives in Flagstaff, Arizona.
Advanced praise for "Damnation Spring":
*One of Lit Hub’s Most Anticipated Books of 2021
*One of Book Riot’s Most Anticipated Releases of 2021
*One of Library Journal’s Rising Stars, August 2021
*One of Library Journal’s Titles to Watch 2021
“[A] savvy debut…. A strong work of climate fiction…rooted in age-old man-versus-nature storytelling. An impressively well-turned story about how environmental damage creeps into our bodies, psyches, and economies.”
—Kirkus Reviews, Starred review
“Ash Davidson writes with unwavering compassion—for bitterly divided families, for those with fatally opposed ideologies, for our fragile natural world. Such is the rare generosity of spirit that has produced Damnation Spring—an elegant novel of profound power and grace.”
—Madhuri Vijay, author of The Far Field

At Zola’s Thursday: THE OUTLAW FOLKSY WAILS!
I reckon so. Around here we got something known as a Brookings Folk Ride. I’m not just gonna whistle Dixie, I’ll be pulling out the old finger picking six-stringer and firing out some real live folk music this Thursday, September 23rd, 6 - 8pm on a sunny evening down at Zola’s On The Water.
Along for the that Ride will be legendary guest renegade Patty-Anne Da’Cunha, wanted in all 36 Oregon counties for fine lead vocals, terrific harmonies and great guitar work.
Between my shooting out songs by such folk desperadoes as Neil Diamond, John Prine, Peter Paul & Mary, Tom T. Hall, Donovan, Dylan, Willie, Burl Ives, Leonard Cohen, Don Williams and other pickers…will be some duets with Patty-Anne by artists such as The Everly Brothers, Dolores Keane, Stephen Foster, Norman Greenbaum and more.
Fine food, fine wine, good music, good friends. Stroll on down to the waterfront on Thursday, right on down to Zola’s On The Water, 16374 Lower Harbor Rd, Brookings-Harbor. Remember, folk music works wonders on just about everything.
Some might say "Playin’ ain’t much of a livin’, boy." But will we endeavor to persevere?
I reckon so…
