Brookings is Alive—With the Sound of Music
By Nola Range
Some of that music is now coming from the direcOon of Manley Art Center. Long before COVID
altered our world in a painful way, Tricia Iverson's "Harmony & Me Music" was improving the
world in a deligh?ul way for many in Brookings. Tricia strongly believes in the power of music for
therapeuOc purposes and was determined that COVID would not stop the music. She worked
with children and residents of senior faciliOes-bringing them together and connecOng young and
old in the process of making music and thus enriching the lives of everyone involved.
COVID made close personal interacOons outside of the family unit impossible, but Tricia never
waivered from her purpose. She pursued grants that have enabled her to purchase equipment to
keep her program alive and thriving. Throughout the pandemic she has taught music to children
and families via ZOOM and has created "Care-a-Grams & Gramps" DVDs to hand out at senior fa-
ciliOes.
In August Teacher Tricia brought her Harmony & Me Music classes to the lawn at Manley Art Cen-
ter. Students may now gather in this safe outdoor space to learn music using Music Together. Mu-
sic Together is an early childhood music and movement program for children from birth through
age eight—and the grownups who love them! First offered in 1987, Tricia says “Our music classes
help li?le ones develop their innate musicality—and much, much more.”
